Lace in the Desert {BLISS workshop} Maria Sundin Photography_0008

Last month I had the pleasure of releasing my inner florist and learn from Sarah Winward, an American based florist I have followed on social media for a long time. Sarah’s style is unlike anything I have seen in the UAE wedding industry but it is a style that I love and I think brides are starting to take note of here; romantic, unstructured and sometimes beautifully dramatic, full of textures and slightly more unusual florals.

Creative and inspiring, it was such a pleasure to be part of such a wonderful initiative from Urooj at Bliss.

From Urooj, ‘This idea of The Winged Bouquet Floral Workshop Series travelled with me to this region and started coming alive when I joined Bliss over the summer. If it weren’t for Bliss, the vision would not have materialized. It had to be Sarah for this first series; her aesthetic is so free and fluid, there is no formula, no rigid guidelines for what she creates. Yet her work has a signature distinct style and that resonated with me the most. Participants at the workshop series were from such diverse spaces, we had aspiring entrepreneurs, established businesses, stylists, florists, event planners and even people who were trying their hand at it for the first time. Everyone’s really excited to know who we’re collaborating with next and that, to me, means something beautiful has been created that people want to experience over and over again.’

Luckily Maria Sundin was on board to capture what was a genuinely wonderful event.

Personally, I cannot wait for the next one….

LITD {20 Elegant Wedding Bouquets}_0009Corbin Gurkin | Rylee Hitchner

I adore flowers and nothing quite finishes off your bridal look than a gorgeous bouquet of fresh florals. Today I’ve put together 20 of my favourite flower bouquets for your wedding day. There’s no rule when it comes to creating an elegant arrangement, it depends on whether writhing unstructured (ahhh) or a more compact bouquet is more to your taste and of course your colours.

One thing I am in complete adoration of is long silk ribbons; mixing colours, fabrics and widths of ribbon to create added drama or keeping it simple with one ribbon, either way the results have me gooey eyed every single time. They’re not cheap as they are hand dyed but in my mind they are worth the splash. Silk & Willow in the US has made a name for itself as has Frou Frou Chic which is based in France. A recent discovery of mine is Lancaster & Cornish which is a UK based company. I have ordered from and loved the ribbons from all three.

Onwards, to floral heaven…..

LITD ~ Unstructured flowers_0000

Unstructured bouquets are up there with my absolute favourite wedding details. I love the romance that they encapsulate, the haphazard, non conventional beauty, the spontaneous allure and the wild and uncontrollable way that they have been pulled together.

But above all, it is the true reflection of the natural beauty that I love.

If you’re picking out your wedding bouquet, why not try something a little more unstructured…..

LITD ~ Oversized Bridal Bouquets_0001

I know that it may seem that I have a ‘new love’ almost every week but oversized wedding bouquets is another one. And it is up there on my list of new loves.

Beautiful fresh flowers in an unstructured abundance….what’s not to fall head over heels in love with?

Your bouquet can be the most organic statement piece of your day so if you love blooms then my advice, is just go for it. The bigger the better. The more unstructured the better. The longer the ribbon the better. Sensing a theme here?

Oversized bouquets are divine. In case you need some more persuading, here is a mood board of some of my favourites….
