There is something quite magical about living with the desert on our doorsteps and I love it when this is celebrated.

Maria Sundin created the most beautiful engagement shoot for Swedish couple Ellie & Carl complete with a Moroccan inspired picnic and the indisputable kings of the desert, camels. With some careful styling and elegant details, it is hard not to fall in love with this shoot….

Lace in the Desert {Engagement Shoot with Maria Sundin Photography}_0009

I love beautiful engagement shoots, especially when they come from one of our favourite UAE photographers like Maria Sundin. Soft lighting and a beautiful mixture of beach and desert makes this one of my favourite engagement shoots to date.

From Maria, ‘Maha & Omar came all the way from Dubai to have an engagement session with us in Abu dhabi. We love when our couples want to try something a bit different. Maha & Omar are a couple that bike a lot in their leisure time and so they wanted to incorporate their interest in biking into their engagement session, and that’s what we did:)’

I absolutely love finding and featuring new UAE photographers and today I am thrilled to be sharing the first UAE engagement shoot of Natelee Cocks. Originally from South Africa, Natelee found herself starting her Arabian adventure a few months ago and from meeting her and viewing her work, I’m in love! Simple honest emotion beautifully captured in soft natural light is what Natelee is all about and her style is right up my street and I think it will be yours too.

So, onto the engagement shoot…..

Just when I think I’ve had my fill of desert engagement shoots, one comes along like this and I am back in love with them. Franceska’s stunning dress in the desert is heaven and together these guys not only make a stunning couple but ooze love for one another.

From Natelee, ‘Franceska & Martin’s Dubai Desert Engagement was the perfect start to my Dubai chapter. I was over the moon when Franceska & Martin, booked me for the wedding in Germany! My suggestion to them was doing an engagement shoot just to get them comfortable in front of the camera and with my style of photographing. In saying that, Franceska was no newbie to this, as she used to be in the modelling industry…

Franceska came  up  with  the great idea  for a Dubai Desert Engagement shoot, even including some local camels. Franceska originally from  Texas  and  Martin  from  a  small town in Germany had  an  intimate civil wedding in the  States  four  years  ago. The plan was to  have their dream  white wedding  the  year to follow,  but  with  life, things happen and plans change. Finally everything  was falling  into  place  and they got to set the date on their 4th year anniversary  in  Ehingen City Germany, Martin’s hometown. I absolutely loved shooting in the Dubai Desert, the sand, the light, and the open space…Can’t wait for the next one!’

This is a very special engagement shoot as it involves one of our very own real brides. For those of you who have been following our real bride stories you will know that Angela is getting married very soon. In fact she is days away.

A few weeks ago photographer Maria Sundin and I spent an afternoon at the beautiful Bab al Shams Hotel and captured Angela and her soon to be husband Mark in love, or at least, in between fits of hysterical giggles. These two had Maria and I in stitches and were one of the nicest couples I have had the pleasure to work with.

The very lovely and talented make up artist Monica enhanced Angela’s natural beauty with soft natural make up and loose and romantic curls. As these photographs show, she looked stunning.

The styling was very simple as we just wanted to concentrate on Angela and Mark themselves. They make for a wonderful couple and I wish them every ounce of happiness for their wedding day and beyond.

I just wanted to leave you with Angela’s reaction to the images because I just love it, ‘Can I just say wow, wow, wow Maria! Amazing!!!!! I honestly can’t believe that is me in those pictures, there are some amazing ones. Thank you both SO much….Maria you are an artist not a photographer!’

I do love a good engagement shoot and this one is a beauty. Melissa Beattie has once again done what she seems to do so effortlessly; captured Sally and Ash beautifully in love at one of my favourite places in Dubai, The Farm.

Engagement shoots are such a great way to get to know your photographer a little better before the big day and also get a set of beautiful images of you and your beau.

How we met
With Sally in Australia and Ash in the US at the time, a mutual friend brought us together in Egypt where we started our story.
The proposal
It was a gorgeous winter’s day in Alexandria, Egypt. The sun was shining and we were touring the grounds of one of the once-upon-a-time palaces of King Farouk. Ancient surroundings that were full of history. The perfect setting to this historic moment in our lives. On the wild and wonderful shores of the Mediterranean, across a quaint little bridge and over a bundle of gigantic rocks that saw a few amateur fishermen throwing their lines, we sat watching the waves crash. Ash suddenly got down on one knee and proposed. It was a couple of months later that we got the ring designed in Dubai.
