BEAUTIFUL WEDDING IN SWEDEN

With so many brides planning their weddings from afar in Dubai, it is always a pleasure to feature ‘long distance weddings’, especially when the photography is a LITD favourite Maria Sundin and the wedding is in the beautiful and leafy Sweden.

Swedish Bride Maria and her South African husband Craig planned this wedding from Cape Town. Planning away from your chosen location can seem like a daunting task but today we get to inspire you and reassure you that it is truly worth it.

I’ll hand you over to bride Maria to share a little more on this truly international affair. Oh and there’s a whole lot of pretty too…..

How did the two of you meet?

We met at work in Stockholm, Sweden. We both worked for Absolut Vodka at the time so it will always be our preferred vodka. 🙂

How was the wedding planning process?

I did most of the planning of course with some support from Craig. We didn’t feel the need to involve a planner since we allowed ourselves with plenty of time to plan the wedding, 2 years from getting engaged. I love to organize parties and events and have also done this a bit professionally. I also had really specific thoughts on all the elements of the wedding and really enjoyed the planning process. We had a fair amount of DIY projects such as colorful bunting, handmade lace tambourines and handmade celebratory YAY/hooray flags. We also put a lot of effort into our table decorations consisting of a log centerpiece with a range of decorated glass jars with mixed wild Swedish summer flowers.

Why did you choose the venue that you chose?

We wanted a beautiful and idyllic venue in the Stockholm archipelago. Since we knew that we would have so many guests coming from abroad to the wedding it was also important for us that it was possible to drive to the venue from the airport and that the venue would have enough rooms to accommodate all our guests. Smadalaro Gard was the perfect choice. Reasonably close to the city but with beautiful nature surroundings and not to mention the amazing food and excellent service. We would not have chosen a better venue and will be so happy to return to celebrate our anniversaries.

Did you have any wedding jitters/nerves?

We got a little bit nervous towards the end but we never had any big jitters. I think that part of why we were able to stay so calm and relaxed was that we had planned everything so well and that we were smart enough to delegate any big responsibilities to bridesmaids, groomsmen and family members during the actual wedding day.

Describe your wedding day, was it as you planned for?

Our wedding day was just perfect. I can honestly not think of anything that I would have changed. even the weather was lovely and the sun was shining. Our wedding guest were in a great mood and the party went on all night. It was just as we dreamt it to be.

Wedding dress: Custom made by the talented South African designer Robyn Roberts. I had the dress made in Cape Town where I lived just before the wedding and it was a very positive process. It really ended up being the dress of my dreams // Shoes: Nine West // Other Outfit Details: I wore a very special necklace for the first time. When Craig proposed to me in Zanzibar, he didn’t propose with a ring since he knew that I would probably like to choose the ring myself. Instead he proposed with a beautiful blue and purple tanzanite stone that I made into a pendant and wore for the first time on our wedding day // Bridesmaid’s dresses: Probably the most stressful thing due to many different opinions 🙂 but we finally agreed on dresses from the online shop JJsHouse. I think my girls were stunning and the color fit perfect with the rest of the color scheme // RingsBrowns Jewelers in Cape Town // Groom’s & Groomsmen’s suits: Ted Baker // Flowers: I wanted wild Swedish flowers and lots of colors. All the flower arrangements including the bouquets were made by my talented friend and florist Sara Vikstrom who currently lives in Tasmania, Australia but came home to Sweden to be a part of our celebrations. I could not have been happier with the flowers // VideographyJennie Johansson // Photography :Maria Sundin // Make-up and HairEmma Burendahl // Reception VenueSmadalaro Gard // SingerSelen Ozan and I can really recommend her. She is amazing.
